5th Echoes of Ji.hlava IDFF in Brussels

At the turn of January and February, Ji.hlava IDFF will come to Brussels for the fifth time to present the Echoes of 20th Ji.hlava IDFF, a representative showcase of documentary films screened at the past year’s festival including a selection of winning films.

  • Opening Ceremony: February 8, 2017 | European Parliament

  • Echoes: February 9 – 12 & 16 – 19, 2017 | Cinéma Nova

More than twenty years ago, the Ji.hlava IDFF put new wind in the sails of Central and Eastern European documentary cinema, contributing to the fresh energy sparked by contemporary non-fiction directors. Real people have thus returned to the big screen with their everyday and unusual stories, and documentary filmmakers have, to an unprecedented extent, diversified the variety of their authorial signatures. Despite doubts that the golden age of cinema is over, we are living in an era when cinema has become the source of artistic expression, of joy stemming from the creative gesture, and a report about the world we are living in. We are looking forward to the Echoes of Jihlava in Cinema Nova in Brussels and are grateful to all those who made them possible. Enjoy the endlessly changing feeling of astonishment in interaction with the presented film titles.
