11th Ji.hlava International
Documentary Film Festival
October 23 – 28, 2007
The festival was kicked off by the former Czech Prime Minister Miloš Zeman who made his appearance on the film screen and also in person, thus heralding the politically and socially charged programme of the festival. Visitors were thrilled to see retrospectives of Chris Marker and Harun Farocki. The festival announced the first winner of the Respekt Award for the best TV, video and online reportage. The first edition of Media and Documentary, a seminar instructing journalists how to write documentary reviews, attracted its first participants. The Contribution to World Cinema Award was accepted by experimental filmmaker, curator and electronic audio-visual and video art pioneer Woody Vasulka.
