Eye Sees Target

The 16th poster of Jihlava IDFF was unveiled today in front of the Dukla Cinema; the place where the story of documentary Jihlava started in 1997.

With 118 days left until the first festival screening, the organizers introduced this year’s graphic design by graphic artist Juraj Horváth. It is dominated by the visual motive of the target.

“Hitting the bull’s eye is a popular phrase related to the target. The target is a metaphor for focus, associating funfair shooting galleries of childhood while playfully asking what we put in the centre and how sharp our vision is,” says festival director Marek Hovorka about the poster, adding the following: “In the spirit of the festival which rather asks more questions, we are not going to say what we put in the centre. We deliberately leave the question unanswered. However, collages and variations of old and new targets to accompany the festival’s printed material will provide certain clues.”

Juraj Horváth, visual artist, publisher and lecturer of the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague, has stated his starting points in the following poem:

Eye Sees Target

In October
Jihlava is
what we
aim for

focusing on the target
encircled by
a field of reason
a zone of passion
a rabbit in the field

hunters of images
hunters of stories
hunters of dreams
hunters of justice

unhitting the bull’s eye
on the periphery of attention
outside the centre
outside the target
we are searching
in the white field

a rabbit clearly visible
from the Masaryk Square
disappears in the ochre field

in the red field
a dog chasing
his own tail

brooding
in the blue field

see you on
Tuesday
October 23, 2012
in the centre
of Jihlava
