Reactions to the 20th Jihlava IDFF

In six days, the festival was attended by almost 6,000 visitors including over 1,000 film professionals, while overall number of spectators for the first time exceeded 40,000.

The event received outstanding media coverage in the Czech Republic as well as abroad: "The Festival has been quietly shattering expectations", wrote Film New Europe; "At 20, Jihlava's industry programme is richer than ever", published Cineuropa commenting on the festival’s 20th anniversary. Other media pointed out young crowds, packed screening halls, and opportunities provided to talented producers.

"Jihlava is almost unrivalled in terms of variety of activities – focusing on production and promotion of documentary cinema and offering a wide range of opportunities to young producers... You can also see crowds of young visitors with backpacks and sleeping bags, often watching the films sitting on the steps or leaning against a wall – just another face of Jihlava," wrote the Austrian ray Filmmagazine.

"In the twenty years of existence, the Jihlava IDFF – a showcase of regional as well as international documentary cinema – has become a sought-out event for film professionals, and not only for them," informed Radio France International.

"Jihlava IDFF has solidified its tradition and its visitors were again treated to a selection of audacious, provoking and substantial film titles," wrote Hungarian portal prae.hu commenting on this year’s edition.

Positive feedback also came from our festival guests and other visitors. One of the speakers at the Jihlava IDFF’s Inspiration Forum, professor Philip Zimbardo paid us a compliment: "Jihlava IDFF was a unique personal and professional experience for me, among the hundreds of conferences I have attended... But it was the first time that my presentation was totally surrounded by a vibrant audience".

"For me it was great to see so many young people completely engrossed in watching and discussing documentary film. So many packed screens and such strong engagement. Congratulations to all of you in Jihlava who make it such a brilliant festival. Long may it continue", wrote to us renowned producer Rebecca O'Brien.

The preparations for the 21st edition are already underway, but we would still be grateful for your (positive or negative) feedback to our previous edition. Write us at industry@dokument-festival.cz. Thank you!
